processing-a-day
by nicklally

this project is part of the artclash collective's fun-a-day project. each day i will be learning processing, "an open source programming language and environment for people who want to program images, animation, and interactions". each day's work will be displayed as a java applet embedded in a web page. click on the links below to see my work.

1.1.08
simple shapes with various opacities and shades of gray
[view]

1.2.08
for loops make repeating ellipses and lines
[view]

1.3.08
curves and color gradients
[view]

1.4.08
radiating dots and a starburst
[view]

1.5.08
randomly-generated dots radiating outward, reload for different configurations
[view]

1.6.08
four shape studies
[view] [view] [view] [view]

1.7.08
randomly placed shapes grow and shrink: watch this one for a while for the full effect
[view]

1.8.08
mouse over the window to draw with a moving shape, click to clear
[view]

1.9.08
overlapping sine curves make patterns over time
[view]

1.10.08
overlapping sine curves again, but now you can use UP and DOWN arrows to increase or decrease the amplitude of the waves, click to clear
[view]

1.11.08
same as previous, but now a "cloud" appears anytime a key is pressed
[view]

1.12.08
unpredictable drawing pad
[view]

1.13.08
circles follow cursor and draw a larger circle when they catch up
[view]

1.14.08
randomly-generated patterns loosely based on the cover of the processing book, second two are buggy initial versions that give interesting results, reload periodically for new patterns
[view] [view] [view]

1.15.08
circles move organically, sometimes joining together, sometimes splitting apart
[view]

1.16.08
more moving circles, this time changing speed and size over time, click and hold to pause
[view]

1.17.08
series of circles float around, each connected to every other one, react when moused over
[view]

1.18.08
similar to above, now circles can be dragged
[view]

1.19.08
photo filter
[view]

1.20.08
randomly extracts ten colors from a photo and displays RGB values, reload for new colors
[view]

1.21.08
same as above, but now user can change each color manually by clicking on image
[view]

1.22.08
photo filters
[view] [view] [view]

1.23.08
live photo filters
[view] [view] [view] [view]

1.24.08
color buddy, now with hex and rgb values and a reload button

addendum
i completed 24 processing experiments and had them displayed at the fun-a-day show. i was in virtual attendance via skype video chat, so i was able to get feedback from people as they viewed my project. in the coming months, i intend to further develop color buddy into a fully functional tool for artists and designers. i will also continue to experiment with processing and post my projects on this page. here are some photos from the show, from my point-of-view:

2.21.08
spheres float in 3d space, perspective can be controlled with the mouse
